On this edition of Enviro:
John and the panel speak to Forest Friends interns Vincent Tchavouchan, Mathilde Gendron and Victoire Courtois detailed their research and outlined casualties, human costs environmental effects and economic costs of various 20th and 21st century wars.
- Vincent discussed the casualties’ human costs environmental effects and financial costs of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars
- Mathilde outlined the use and effects of chemical weapons in wars including the Vietnam War
Mathilde discussed with Victoire specific examples of the environmental and other effects of wars, using a question and answer series, where Mathilde asked questions in English and French and translated back into English for the listeners which added to the quality of the discourse.
John played songs from the CD ‘A Soldier’s sad story: Vietnam through the eyes of Black America 1966-73’ this CD has 24 anti-war songs. Their existence contrasts sharply with today where war protest songs seem out of fashion compared to the period studied by the students.
John and Joe took part in discussions on the issues involved.
