In this 15h episode of Joy and Jargon, our guest is David Rogers, a former meteorologist with over 35 years of experience at Met Éireann (formerly the Irish Meteorological Service, “Oifig Meteoiraíochta na hÉireann” in the Irish language). He holds a B.Sc. in Applied Sciences (specialising in Physics and Mathematics) and a Master’s in Meteorology. During his career, he worked as a forecaster at Dublin Airport and in the Central Forecasting Office, while also collaborating on research projects with the UK Met Office and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting. In this episode of Joy and Jargon, David takes us behind the scenes of weather forecasting and explains the fascinating technical terms and phrases we hear every day on TV and radio, from “cold front” to “unsettled weather” and “band of rain”.
