We use the word traumatised all the time now but do we actually know what trauma is or what it does to a person?
This week on Life Unfiltered, Maria McHale sat down with psychoanalytic psychotherapist and DCU’s assistant professor of psychotherapy Dr. Ray O’Neill to discuss the real meaning of trauma and the difference between a single traumatic event and chronic, complex trauma. Dr Ray O’Neill describes trauma as ‘a normal reaction to an abnormal event’ and says it is an ‘untold/unrecognised story which needs to be told and retold and listened to’.
