This Sporting Life is an upbeat and lively series of short documentaries which capture the excitement and dedication of minority sports people and encourages others to join in. Each programme serves as an introduction to a different minority sport practiced in Northside Dublin.
22. Wrestling
When most people think think of wrestling they think of the WWE and people like The Rock, Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker. Olympic or free style wrestling bears little resemblance to it’s more entertainment based cousin and the history of wrestling dates back about five thousand years and is probably the oldest recorded sport.
We went along to the Hercules gym one of Ireland’s oldest wrestling clubs to find out about wrestling and how there’s more to the sport than just brute strength. Featuring Michael McCauley secretary of the Irish Amateur Wrestling Association, Daniel Kennedy, James Brady and Clinton Scott. Produced by Edd Kealy.
