Paula Wiseman chats with Brian Crowley from the OPW about the second part of a new exhibition called ‘I am to die for Ireland’, opening at Kilmainham Gaol Museum. The Civil War exhibition explores the story of the execution of five former Free State soldiers on 8th January, 1923.
The second part of an exhibition exploring the role of Kilmainham Gaol in Civil War state executions opens on 8 January, the centenary of the executions of five young former Free State soldiers who were condemned to death on charges of treason. The exhibition will include the last letters of one of these men, Sylvester Heaney, which will be on public display for the first time.
