Culture Shots #18 (Intercultural Dialogue through Community Media) by Near Fm on Mixcloud
This is the eighteenth show of Culture Shots, part of a series of programmes examining the meaning of culture and promoting intercultural understanding.
This programme features the keynote address delivered by Maimuna Kanyamala at Banulacht’s recent conference: Women’s Human Rights- Creating Global Solidarity.
Maimuna Kanyamala is the Executive Director of Kivulini Women’s Rights Organization in Mwanza. She was recently presented with the 2011 Woman of Courage Award by the US Embassy in Tanzania for her efforts to promote women’s rights in Tanzania.
Culture Shots producers Vera Akpotor, Mariaam Bhatti and Eoin Drinan travelled down to Limerick to attend the conference and record material for this show marking the International 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign.
The 16 days campaign takes place from November 25th: International Day Against Violence Against Women and December 10th: International Human Rights Day, in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights and to emphasize that gender-based violence is a human rights violation.
This series is a part of the Intercultural Dialogue through Community Media project, which is co-financed by the European Commission under the European Integration Fund and is supported by the Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration in the Department of Justice and Equality and Pobal.
