1952 was the year that Joe Patterson worked as a Civil Servant in Posts and Telegraphs.  It was his job to order the first reel to reel Grundig tape recorder from Germany and BASF tapes. As Joe approaches his 90^th birthday, he can still recall the many poems he learned by heart as Bearla agus as Gaeilge and is able to recite them gan leabhair. Mary McDevitt was 9 years old in 1952 and can remember her five older brothers tying her doll’s hands and feet together and using it as a football in the back garden.  ‘Wheel of Fortune’ by Kay Starr was the best-selling song that year.
