1952 was the year that Joe Patterson worked as a Civil Servant in Posts and Telegraphs. It was his job to order the first reel to reel Grundig tape recorder from Germany and BASF tapes. As Joe approaches his 90th birthday, he can still recall the many poems he learned by heart as Bearla agus as Gaeilge and is able to recite them gan leabhair. Mary McDevitt was 9 years old in 1952 and can remember her five older brothers tying her doll’s hands and feet together and using it as a football in the back garden. ‘Wheel of Fortune’ by Kay Starr was the best-selling song that year.
