Geological Survey over North County Dublin

Ray Scanlon, Principal Geologist, Geological Survey of Ireland talks to Noel McGuinness about the latest phase of the airborne Tellus geological survey which is currently in the North Dublin rural area. He explains that the current survey is the fourth phase of a wider geological mapping project which collects and analyses geochemical and geophysical data on rocks, soil and water across Ireland. As the survey involves a low-flying plane, the Geological Survey of Ireland is undertaking a communications campaign to make sure that people and animals on the ground are not disturbed by the low-flying aircraft. The Tellus website – www.tellus.ie – is updated weekly with flight plan information.
