Play

In this 13th episode of Joy and Jargon, we explore the precise and fascinating language of military archives.

Our guest is Cécile Chemin, Senior Archivist at Military Archives of Ireland. With over 20 years of experience, Cécile works daily with precious historical records spanning from the Irish Revolution to the present day.

She represents the International Council on Archives on the Irish National Committee of the Blue Shield, operating under the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.

Cécile is also the founder and co-host of Archive Nation, Ireland’s first podcast dedicated to archives and the people who preserve them.

Today she joins us to unpack the specialised jargon of the archive — the words, terms, and concepts that define her daily work.
