Enviro – Birdwatch Ireland, Starlings

On this edition of Enviro:

We interviewed Niall Hatch of Birdwatch Ireland about starlings, now a threatened species.  He explained what are called ‘murmuration’ displays when vast numbers of these birds fly together in ever increasing numbers and can be seen in their aerobatics in Ireland’s midlands where they put on a magnificent performance daily, before sunset, for example in Nobber Co. Meath. See Birdwatch Ireland‘s website for video of these displays. Joe Kennedy’s ‘Country Matters’ in the Sunday Independent on the 13th. January 2019 spoke about stories about these birds and their connections with humans and how they could mimic and for example repeated and embellish one of Mozart’s themed which he was working on at the time.

To celebrate Martin Luther King Day which takes place on the 21st January this year, we played some of his speeches.
