Michael Hennessy interviews Caroline Farrell, who is the National Chair of the I.F.A. Farm Family & Social Affairs Committee, about Farm Safety Week 2018, which runs from Monday July the 16th to Friday July the 20th.
Caroline discusses farm safety in general and the new approach to farm safety being adopted by the Irish Farmers Association, where they start talking about when things ‘go right’, sharing good practice, and demonstrating what ‘good’ looks like. She also highlights their new initiative of appointing a Farm Health and Safety Officer to promote peer-to-peer learning at branch level, to educate farmers to become safety ambassadors in their own communities – all this in the light of 24 deaths from from farm accidents in 2017 and 11 deaths so far this year.
