John Haughton talked about his recent visit to Kilkenny and Carlow where he visited Graignamanagh, and ancient abbeys St. Mullins, Duiske.
In Duiske there was a statue of St. Fiacre patron of gardeners. The monastery he founded is now semi-ruin at Ullard a few miles away. Other towns he visited were Borrris and Innistigue. There was a regatta in Graig, a vintage rally in Inistigue and a book launch in Graig to remember those killed in the First World War who was from the area.
Robert will recommend plants for a wildlife garden.
John and Robert will talk about the poetry night in Howth on the 5 th . August.
John will review two books, firstly, ‘The Hot Topic: How to tackle global warming and still keep the lights on’ by Gabrielle Walker and Sir David King, and secondly ‘The Principles of Gardening@ A Guide to the art, history science and practice of gardening’ by Hugh Johnson.
This will be followed by a discussion on gardening.
