Enviro – 4th July 2016

John Haughton and Joe Dunne present another edition of Enviro along with visitors North East Dublin poet Paul Wickham & Howth resident and writer, Robert Millar.
The program began with an interview with Meagan Carmody of Friends of the Earth with the details of the Summer camp of art, kyaking campfires and workshops about food sovereignty,sustainable energy anti-fracking, from 9th.-28th. This Enviro was also notifying listeners about an upcoming event. The details were explained in a communication from Michael Connaughton, whose idea it was on August 5th7 P.M.- 10.30 P.M. Poetry & Musical Evening in the Columbanus Hall ( Old School ) beside Howth Catholic Church.
There’ll be 10 Dublin North East Poets reading for 15 mns each. 6 readers before the break for chat and free refreshments, then around 9 P.M.with a little musical accompaniment from Siobhan Moore & Michael Kelly followed by another 4 poets till 10.15 P.M followed by more music. The following poets reading and being hosted by Sue Brown are John Haughton,Maria Somers,Anna Kelly, Joyce Garvey, Seamus Ua Trodd, Paddy Lowe, Michael Foley, Des Kenny,Ken Bryon etc.
Admission is by donation – funds go to next event in February 17th. 2017.
As well as a cultural event this should convey some of the artists from around the North East of Dublin, and the need for an Arts Centre. To record
this event by NEAR FM would be a milestone and testament to our abilities.
This was followed by a series of poems including poems by Famous Irish war poet, Francis Ledwidge and three anti-war songs ‘Johnny I hardly knew You’ by the Clancy Brothers, ‘Gallipoli’ by the Fureys and Davey Arthur and ‘Travelling Soldier’ by the Dixie Chicks.
