David Moore, Chairman of Astronomy Ireland, talks to Noel McGuinness on Northside Today about some interesting events relating to astronomy.  He says that the planet Jupiter is currently at its closest to the earth and looks like a brilliant star to the naked eye in the West each evening.  To mark this event Astronomy Ireland is setting up some very powerful telescopes on Tuesday night 3rd March at its headquarters in Blanchardstown and David says the event is open to the general public.  He also talks about the public lecture on Monday 9th March entitled “Russian Space Science”.  He says the year 2015 is the 50th anniversary of the Institute for Space Research in Russia and this talk in Trinity College will look at Russia’s main discoveries from the 1930s.  It will also profile the principal scientists involved.  David also talks about the almost total eclipse of the Sun that will take place on 20th March.
