Successful swim of the North Channel

Fergal Somerville joined Noel McGuinness in the studio and shared some of his inspiring 12 hour and 21 minute swim in the North Channel. Somerville was one of only 14 to complete the challenging course. He achieved numerous records, which included being the oldest person to swim the North Channel course (totaling 32 km), making the fourth fastest time on the North Channel, and accomplishing all of this while in the lowest temperature of water (reaching temperatures as cold as 9 degrees Celsius).

Maggie Kidd, a woman who sets the record as the youngest swimmer of the 14 successful swimmers, later joins Fergal and Noel and shares her experience of meeting Fergal at the finish. The successful swimmer was motivation for Fergal, and he thanks her as well as all of his supporters that were there for him every step of the way.

Fergal’s North Channel challenge was all for a great cause. Every penny of the proceeds from the North Channel swim, went to the Irish Cancer Society.
