This episode explores three films close to the heart of the northside – The Commitments (1991) The Snapper (1993) and The Van (1996). These three films are stories that capture some of the cultural and political shifts of the 1990s. Film as a medium can be a modern version of folklore. The good and the bad of those times, are knitted into the meaning and resonance of these narratives, and if we look closely enough, they can also act as a cultural and historical record.
