The Global Thread, is a special four part series that will raise public awareness of active citizenship around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  Produced in partnership with Comhlamh, this series will focus on gender equality and reproductive rights; sustainable energy and extractive industries; deinstitutionalisation of children’s care and economic inequalities.  Each programme features interviews with people at the frontline in fighting for a sustainable future for our planet.

Episode 3: TAX, DEBT AND POVERTY

This programme explore the relationship between how global financial architecture  was designed and the ways that trade and economic policies designed in rich countries actually increase poverty in the both global south and north.

Interviewees:

  1. Nessa Ní Chasaide, a teaching associate at Kimmage Development Studies Centre and former chair of the Debt and Development Coalition,  now called Financial Justice Ireland.
  2. Professor Sheila Killain teaches both corporate finance and corporate social responsibility in the University of Limerick. Sheila’s research addresses issues of social sustainability, accountability and the common good, with a focus on professional expertise, tax policy and business school education.
