The Arts Show: We Can’t Have Monkeys In The House

Maura Walsh chats to Writer and Theatre Artist Ciara Elizabeth Smyth ahead of her production ‘We Can’t Have Monkeys In The House‘ which runs from 12th- 24th November at The New Theatre, Dublin

Award-Winning, Dublin based Ciara, is a powerhouse and one of Ireland’s most promising young comedic writers. I chatted to her about the inspiration for the play which is a new absurd comedy about tragedy, regression, and death. We chat about the virtuoso all-female cast,  the New Theatre’s Artist-in-Residency Programme, the Rough Magic SEEDS Programme and other works in progress.

Mammy’s had a heart attack. Leslie is in denial. Cinnamon doesn’t care. Neil just wants to dance. Their estranged sister John is unhappy about all of this. Funeral preparations are underway. All that’s left to do is pull the plug and wait for Mammy to die. Tempers flare and bad habits resurface as relationships disintegrate. #HAPPYFUCKINGFAMILIES
