Irish Girl Guide

Thousands of school pupils turned up for class yesterday morning [Monday 22 February 2016] in their Girl Guide uniforms!

A-wear-ness Day is an annual event that gives girls an opportunity to talk about all the things they love about Guiding Guide leaders always get permission from school principals in advance, of course!

A-wear-ness Day is a wonderful example of the partnerships between the formal education settings of schools with the non-formal educational programme of Girl Guides, all of which benefit the development of girls as confident citizens of Ireland.

Through their involvement in Guiding, girls are encouraged – and empowered – to fulfil their potential and to be the best that they can.

Irish Girl Guides’ Communications Officer, Fiona Murdoch, visited Our Lady of Mercy Primary School in Kells, Co Meath, yesterday where 30 girls turned up for school in their Guide uniforms. First she talked to Brownie Muireann Brady (Brownies is the section of Irish Girl Guides for girls age 7-10) about what it was like turning up for school in her Guide uniform.
