Niall Hatch of Birdwatch Ireland talks to Noel McGuinness about a proposed change in the Wildlife Act which would allow the burning of vegetation in March and the cutting of hedgerows in August. Niall says the Bill to facilitate the changes will be fast-tracked through the Oireachtas prior to the forthcoming General Election. For this reason Birdwatch Ireland, The Irish Wildlife Trust, An Taisce and the Hedgelaying Association have launched a petition asking the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, TD, not to make changes to laws protecting nesting birds.
