Older Women and Irish Culture & Heritage

This strand takes a look at how older women engage with Irish culture and heritage. This strand  features older women who have a strong connection with Irish Celtic heritage and identity, such as musicians, dancers, artists and historians.

    Programme 3 Newgrange

A group of ladies from the Ballymun/Glasnevin Ladies Club and members of Own, visit the pre-Celtic, Neolithic site of Newgrange in County Meath and record their experiences and impressions. The themes of life,death and afterlife in pre-Celtic and Celtic Ireland will be explored by them in the context of the female experiences of then and today. Other contributor to the programme include historian Dr Mary McAuliffe, Dept. Women’s Studies UCD, and OPW Staff at Newgrange, Co Meath.
