Van Dyke Parks is in no uncertain terms, a legend – a songwriter, arranger, and producer who has collaborated with an astonishing amount of artists, Tim Buckley, Bruce Springsteen, Harry Nilsson, Fiona Apple, Randy Newman, Rufus Wainwright, Joanna Newsom and probably most famously the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson, to name but a few. He kicks off his European tour with a performance in Dublin’s Button Factory on the 15th of May.
On Friday he joined Ray Burke of Near90FM’s Left of the Dial for a chat about the tour, his forthcoming series of five 7” singles (each of which will feature original artwork by five of America’s top contemporary artists – Art Spiegelman, Charles Ray, Frank Holmes, Ed Ruscha and Billy Edd Wheeler), as well as lots of other things from his rich and lengthy career.
