Noel Mc Guinness talks to Atpeace Makita from Detroit. Atpeace is a member of the Detroit Water Brigade.
They are a volunteer-led alliance of compassionate citizens of Detroit and their international allies working to bring emergency relief to families facing water shut offs while advocating for an income-based Water Affordability Plan in Detroit.
They deliver bottled water, water coolers, jugs, rainwater catchment barrels, filters, and other supplies to families. Supplies are donated to their various Water Stations or their central hub at 1514 Washington Blvd downtown from their online registry.
They believe that water is a human right. They work towards a Water Affordability Plan for all. The plan, created by Michigan Welfare Rights Organization and others, caps your utility payment at 2.5% of monthly income.
