David Moore is Chairman of Astronomy Ireland and Editor of the Astronomy Ireland magazine. He talks to Noel McGuinness on Northside Today about the variety of fascinating things that can be seen in the sky at night. David says that their evening classes, which will be suitable for beginners, will start on Thursday 9th October. In addition there will be a public lecture on Monday 13th October on the recent discovery concerning the importance of the giant black hole at the centre of our galaxy, the Milky Way, and how it actually provided enough time for life to form on the Earth. Prior to this discovery black holes were considered exotic but somewhat irrelevant to the story of life in the universe whereas they have now been shown to play a crucial role in the existance of mankind. Astronomy Ireland is a non-profit group for members of the public interested in space. For further information see www.astronomy.ie or phone 086 064 6555.
