Karl Smith is a volunteer lifesaving coach with Irish Water Safety. He talks to Noel McGuinness on Northside Today about the increasing popularity of water-based activities and the need for constant awareness of water safety. He sets off tomorrow with the Irish team for Rescue 2014, the World Lifesaving Championships in France. They will compete against teams from all over the world in a variety of pool and beach competitions which are based on lifesaving activities. A lot of training is involved in preparation for these competitions and Karl says that Ireland has a very strong team this year.
