Swims in aid of the Lifeboat Service

Fergal Somerville talks to Noel McGuinness about his upcoming swims, the first of which will be around the island of Inis Meáin on the Aran Islands.  This swim be approximately 12 miles in distance and it will be the first attempt for anyone to swim the circumference of Inis Meáin.  It will start from the pier at the northernmost point of the island and wind clockwise past Inis Oirr to the open Atlantic Ocean at the southernmost part of the island to return to the pier via Inis Mór.

Fergal’s second swim will be the Baily to Bray swim in early September 2014 when he plans to swim from Baily Lighthouse in Howth to Bray, Co. Wicklow – a distance of 17.25 kilometres.  Funds raised this year from Fergal’s swims will be for the R.N.L.I., the voluntary lifeboats service that is valued by all water users and communities around Ireland.  For an update of all the information about the swims see http://fergalsomerville.blogspot.ie/?view=classic.
