Leo Panitch is the author of many books and articles and is a Distinguished Research Professor at York University. He speaks with Pirooz Dameshmandi for Global Solidarity and explains why the net effect of so-called austerity programmes is to create the bankers’ Europe – predicted by opponents of Europe.
He is critical of much of the democratic left for a lack of ambition, which has been more debilitating than its lack of capacity in the current global economic crisis. He outlines to Pirooz the kinds of immediate demands for radical reforms as well as longer term socialist strategic orientation that is needed today.
