{"id":60960,"date":"2026-05-14T09:34:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T08:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/listenagain.org\/?p=60960"},"modified":"2026-05-15T16:13:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T15:13:37","slug":"trinity-talks-dublins-hidden-histories-dublins-medieval-boom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/listenagain.org\/?p=60960","title":{"rendered":"Trinity Talks: Dublin\u2019s Hidden Histories \u2013 Dublin&#8217;s Medieval boom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Dublin\u2019s Hidden Histories<\/strong> returns for second series in partnership with Trinity Long Room Hub and Unit18.\u00a0 Recorded in front of a live audience, and featuring songs sung by\u00a0 An Goilin Traditional singers, the series will bring to light histories of Dublin that have been lost or forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>In this episode, <strong>Dublin&#8217;s Medieval boom<\/strong>, Dr Sparky Booker, Assistant Professor in Medieval Irish History at TCD, speaks about the Irish population of the city in the later middle ages. Dublin was a colonial capital and seat of the colonial administration, right at the centre of the Pale, but it was also home to a great many Irish men and women, living and working alongside their English neighbours. Dr Booker and Near FM presenter, Ciar\u00e1n Murray will discuss how those Irish people (a growing population in the later middle-ages) navigated discriminatory laws against them and were able to play a major role in the city&#8217;s society and economy.
