Myra Gleeson speaks with Dr Noel Carolan, a national, local, and family historian, about the release of the 1926 census and why it is important. Noel covers the background to the census and how it was taken on the same day in the Irish Free State and Northern Ireland. He highlights the free-of-charge help available to anyone interested in their history at the National Library and the National Archives of Ireland.<\/p>\n

They chat\u00a0 about tracing family history and the invaluable service provided by Dublin City Libraries. They explore the inevitable insights and mysteries associated with old family photographs. Noel describes the rich personal information that can be expected to be found when the census is released on 18 April 2026. He also describes two free of charge festival events where you can find out all about your family history possibilities \u2013 the Irish Family History Society will have a stand at the Flavours of Fingal Show at Newbridge House on 5 and 6 July, and Raheny Heritage Society will have its annual presence at the Rose Festival at St Anne\u2019s Park on 18 and 19 July.<\/p>\n
