Diana Cheung is an emerging filmmaker with experience in writing, producing and directing and works across documentary and drama genres.<\/div>\n

After a long career in community development, Diana began her film and TV career as a researcher and has worked on a number of films for broadcast, including the BBC NI True North Series, \u2018Border Country, When Ireland was Divided\u2019 for BBC & RTE, \u2018Different League: The Derry City Story\u2019 for BBC & RTE.<\/div>\n

In 2019, Diana was commissioned by the BBC to produce and direct her first short documentary film \u2018Lion Girl\u2019, about Northern Ireland\u2019s only female Chinese Lion Dancer, for their True North shorts strand.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In 2020, Diana won a development fund and mentorship by Alison Millar (Erica Starling) from the Women in Film and TV Pat Llewellyn Bursary for her first feature film ‘Chinese Takeaway Kids’. An intimate and observational film, exploring the identity, belonging and culture of three generations of the Chinese community in Ireland who were brought up in the family business.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The project was shortlisted for the IGNITE Talent Development Programme, a cross-border partnership with Cork International Film Festival and Docs Ireland, that aims to foster a new generation of Irish documentary filmmakers. Chinese Takeaway Kids is currently in development and is supported by Northern Ireland Screen. Diana\u2019s recent work includes ‘Life of Ryan’, funded by Northern Ireland Screen, a short film about an aspiring actor from Northern Ireland, who is a double-leg amputee and currently transitioning to prosthetic legs. The film was screened in the \u2018Disappear Here Film Festival\u2019 in 2022.<\/div>\n

And Northern Chirish, co-produced with Erica Starling Productions, a short film about young creatives in NI from the Chinese community, funded by Community Relations Council and Northern Ireland Screen. The film screened in \u2018Docs Ireland\u2019, \u2018Foyle Film Festival\u2019 and \u2018Irish Film Festival London\u2019 in 2022.<\/div>\n

Recently Diana\u2019s writing and directorial debut for a short drama \u2018The Girl with the Lion\u2019 was selected for production through the NI Screen New Shorts Focus scheme, a script development scheme aimed at under-represented writers in Northern Ireland. The film will be screened in Summer 2023.<\/div>\n

Diana is also the producer and host of the \u2018Being Chirish\u2019 podcast, a platform for the Chinese-Irish community and other minority communities in Ireland to share their stories.<\/div>\n
