\u00a0Maura Walsh chats to\u00a0Elaine Gallagher, Irish Writer, Director, Producer and\u00a0Stand<\/span>\u00a0up Comedian\u00a0<\/b><\/span>ahead of her Edinburgh Preview Shows at A4 Sounds Studio, on Sun 8th July and Sin \u00c9 on Sun 15th July, both starting at\u00a08 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

They speak\u00a0about the history of the bicycle. The most feminist of machines and the\u00a0part it played as a symbol of women’s emancipation and suffrage.\u00a0 Elaine has performed at venues across Ireland, as well as in New York, L.A., San Francisco, Toronto and Montreal. She is currently previewing her\u00a0one woman<\/span>\u00a0show, \u201cThe Freedom Machine\u201d ahead of its 26 show run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August – (1-27th).<\/div>\n

There are a worrying number of \u201cists\u201d in society today \u2013 racists, sexists, and even fascists \u2013 who’d have thought they’d make such a comeback?!\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

For her debut Edinburgh shows,\u00a0she has decided to focus on a positive \u201cist\u201d in society \u2013 the cyclist! The Freedom Machine is a hilarious audio-visual stand up show, which celebrates 100 years of women’s suffrage by exploring the revolutionary bicycle.\u00a0<\/span>This work premiered at Smock Allies: Scene + Heard 2018.<\/div>\n
