We talked about “Enviro, yesterday (a retrospective) to-day and tomorrow, (i.e.in the future) and we began to plot the road ahead identifying some topics for the future. We explained what the Enviro program is about based on the concept of \u2018Deep Ecology\u2019. We referred to recent events like the death of Martin McGuiness and his role in the peace process of Northern Ireland, the battening of protestors in Moscow on Sunday, the reported bombing\/killing of 160 civilians in Mosul and the raising to the ground of the cities of Mosul and Aleppo and the resulting homelessness and vast migrations. We talked about how the new president of the US was turning the clock backwards environmentally with a return to emphasis on coal, oil and gas extraction with dire consequences environmentally, rather than promoting renewable energy.<\/p>\n
We identified a number of topics for the future including Sellafield \u2018the ticking time bomb\u2019\u00a0, \u2018chem. trails\u2019 and \u2018geo engineering\u2019. We celebrated the end of an era with the passing of Chuck Berry who died a short time ago and we played some of the R&R songs of his and others Joe Dunne explained the significance of R&R in the evolution of the music\/song scene. He explained how the movement gave rise to the “teddy boys” scene with their distinctive appearance.<\/p>\n
Songs played in the program included: Bill Haley and His Comets; \u2018Shake Rattle and Roll and \u2018Rock around the Clock\u2019; Carl Perkins \u2018Blue Suede Shoes\u2019; Little Richard \u2018Whole lotta shaken\u2019 goin\u2019 on\u2019 and \u2018Rip it Up\u2019; and Chuck Berry \u2018Sweet Little Sixteen\u2019; \u2018Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll Music\u2019; \u2018Maybelline\u2019 and \u2018Roll over Beethoven\u2019<\/p>\n
