As our population ages it is timely to reflect on the nature and roles of older people in Irish society. Ageing, or growing old, is a biological fact but should we consign<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

the older person to the economic dustbin, as someone who can no longer make a contribution to Irish society?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ageism is the perception that to be old is to be inactive or to be useless to society. Older people are sometimes viewed, by and large, as a burden which must be borne by the younger, more energetic and ‘productive’ members of society.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This programme explores this perception with guest Paul Maher from Agewise, and participants in the Intergenerational Project conducted by the Older Women’s Network.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n
