Grainne tells us all about the case of Mohammed Younis<\/div>\n
The Supreme Court recently overturned a High Court judgement in the Mohammed Younis case.<\/div>\n
Mohammed Younis worked in restaraunt for 7 years , he worked 80 hours a week for .55 cents an hour. His employer confiscated his passport, refused to renew his work permit and even denied Mohammed holidays, only giving him Chritmas day off.<\/div>\n
Upon learning of the situation the MRCI supported Mohammed in taking a case to the rights commissioner , which he won and was awarded over \u20ac90,000 in unpaid wages.<\/div>\n
In 2012, a High Court judgement overturned the award on the grounds that “an undocumented worker cant have a valid contract”. The Supreme Court has now overturned this decision.<\/div>\n
